Howl-O-Ween a howling success!

ASNA’s first Howl-O-Ween Parade & Costume Contest for dogs had 51 entrants and many more proud owners and delighted onlookers from our neighborhood and beyond.

- Elvis –a Miniature Schnauzer dressed as “The King”–walked off with the Grand Prize of a $75 gift basket. (Actually, he rode off in a pink limousine.) Other winners included – Rabbi Golden, the “Pied Piper”, a pug dressed as a lion, and a chiuaua and his master dressed as runaway groceries.

Judging dogs of all types, sizes and shapes some owners too dressed as – Jaws, Queen Isabella, angels, devils, cows and other inventive creations was no small task. But the judges Alderman Eugene Schulter and Sylvia Gomez and Jon Duncanson, co-anchors of the CBS 2 weekend evening news were up for it. Channel 2 featured the event on its 10:00 news.

The event held Saturday, October 29, enjoyed gorgeous weather, a park like setting loaned by the condo association at Ravenswood and Carmen, and great prizes and door prizes donated by area businesses. Ben Hollis, former host of Wild Chicago and soon to have a new show Wild Chicago’s Illinois Road Trip (starting in April on WTTW), kept things lively. Pastor Paul Koch, senior pastor of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, provided a special blessing for pets.

A big thanks to all our sponsors (see below), Erich Schremp for taking photos and everyone who pitched in! Check out the photos in the ASNA Photo Gallery.

A Successful ASNA Block Party

It was one of those lazy, crazy summer days. It was the Andersonville South Neighborhood party held Saturday, July 16, on Winona between Ravenswood and Paulina.

More than a hundred people young, old, and many in between turned out to enjoy the day, their neighbors, great food and fun activities.     See for yourself!   Check out our ASNA Photo Gallery.

Kids’ favorites included the Jumping Jack brought in by the City, the Chicago Fire fighters who let kids tour their truck, face painting and not one, not two, but three piñatas!

Chair massages provided by Serendipity Massage, 5301 N. Clark, were a big hit with adults.

Two cakewalks one for kids and one for adults rewarded winners with an assortment of yummy baked goods.

Everyone attending received a raffle ticket. (Check out the great prizes below.) The Edgewater Historical Museum provided a charming display and contest.   And neighborhood resident Ben Hollis made a great MC.

Thanks to Katie Robinson, Social Committee Chair, and Chris Bayard for putting together a fantastic event.

Special thanks to our donors:
