Speak up on property taxes NOW/Mark your calendar (ASNA)

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD–NOW

The State Legislature has reconvened in Springfield and is expected to reconsider reinstatement of the 7 percent cap on property tax assessments for Cook County. If you are concerned, now is the time to speak up.

State Representative Larry McKeon D-13th Dist.) will support the cap as will his successor Greg Harris. State. Sen. Carol Ronen (D-7th Dist.) has voted against it because she believes it is detrimental to small businesses and renters. The Governor has said he will sign if the legislature passes it.

The best hope of keeping the tax cap is to let your elected officials know your feelings. Call/send letters to Sen. Ronen, also Senate President Emil Jones, Jr. (D-14th Dist.) and House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-22nd Dist.), Letter/phone/fax is best since some legislators may not have Internet access due to construction. See contact info below:

Key points to make:

I am a homeowner/taxpayer (in your district)

I am concerned about the skyrocketing tax valuation (tell what yours was) and the fairness of such exorbitant increases.

The tax cap will undermine local businesses by taking money out of resident’s pockets.

Please vote to continue the 7 percent tax cap.

ASNA will also send a letter to Sen. Ronen and seek co-signers from other neighborhood associations.
