Membership/Communication, Linda Wallace
Linda Wallace is resuming as co-chair of Membership/Communication. She and Kathy Leszczynski are working on a fall newsletter. Rick said he might be able to help with printing.
It’s time to do a membership push. The FY runs July 1-June 30. Please remind friends and neighbors to pay up. A reminder will be sent with the newsletter.
Linda proposed that a $5 Starbuck gift card/other small gift be given with a welcome letter and membership application to new members. The group approved expenses of up to $100. Everyone is encouraged to contact Linda with names and addresses of new members. (lkwallace@mindspring.com)
Social Committee
ASNA needs a social committee chair. Katie Robinson has resigned after organizing 3 (!) great neighborhood parties and many other events.
The group agreed there should be a third Howl-o-Ween. Linda said she and others have volunteered to work on it. It looks like Chase will be a contributing sponsor. The group approved expenses up to $300. Anyone who would like to help organize or help out that day should contact Linda.
The group also approved a third – Beat the Winter Blahs party at T’s on the Sunday following the Super Bowl.
Old Business
Chris is working on getting representatives of the CAPS (Chicago Area Police Service), 311 and the Alderman’s office to the October meeting. It will be on a Tuesday, tentatively October 9, at the Bethany Retirement Home. There will be brief presentations with an opportunity for Q &A. It was agreed there should be refreshments. All residents welcome!
Chris reported that the stop sign requested on Ravenswood at the corner of Carmen is in the works. It was presented to City Council on Sept. 5. There will be a traffic study, which is considered a formality, and the sign should be up within a couple months.
The City intends to send a survey to Winnona residents asking them their preference for traffic control, e.g. a stop sign at Paulina or speed bumps.
Chris also noted that the Alderman has forwarded a request for rezoning about 5 houses at the corner of Carmen and Ravenswood. The houses would be changed from commercial/semi-commercial to residential.
Chris said he would approach some businesses about contributing to the ASNA welcome package and/or newsletter ads.
New Business
Concern was expressed that there have been some acts of vandalism and theft on Winona in the last weeks. While this is generally a safe area, it was agreed we need to keep an eye out.
Next Meeting
Tentative Tuesday, Oct. 9, Bethany Retirement Center, 4950 N. Ashland (between Winnemac and Ainsley)
